Hi Fair Oaks Folks,
First let me wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.
Thankfulness for care givers!
As Donna points out, November is Care Giver’s Appreciation Month and all care givers deserve recognition and heartfelt thanks for all they do, not only in November, but every day. “Care givers are often a spouse or family member, but not always. Because of them, many people with chronic disease, like PD, live much better and healthier lives. Most people have compassion for those who struggle with PD or other types of disabilities, but little attention is given to the care giver, who also faces many challenges. Their lives change in major ways, and with little support and recognition for all they give, day in & out.” We recognize and thank them for their care giving.
Our support group meeting is Saturday, November 28, from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Sunrise at Fair Oaks. Because this is on Thanksgiving weekend, we don’t have a speaker booked and many members of our group are out of town or entertaining visitors. So we started a tradition of having a sandwich social on this holiday weekend. For those of us who can be there, we’ll meet in the 3rd floor Bistro, down the hall from the meeting room. You are invited to bring a sandwich to be sliced in four pieces on a platter for sharing. A few of us will bring a fruit salad, vegetable tray or dessert. It will be a social time to relax, catch up and get to know each other better, as well as discuss what we are thankful for and how we cope with holiday stress.
Transport Chair Offered
A member of our support group, Edward, has a transport chair to offer someone who could use it. It’s adult size and folds to 9″. Edward is willing to deliver it to a home, the Silver Diner on a luncheon day (1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 11:30) or to a meeting at Sunrise. If you’re interested, comment to the blog.
