Hello Fair Oaks Folks,
We are in for a special treat at our April 28th meeting! Valerie Parker and her staff at Sunrise Senior Living at Fair Oaks will provide us with a delicious and sumptuous brunch for which we are most appreciative. Come join us from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at Sunrise Senior Living at Fair Oaks on Joseph Siewick Dr. in Fairfax on the third floor in the bistro area for conversation, companionship and a festive brunch specially prepared for us. This is our chance to thank the staff at Sunrise for the space they provide us with for our meetings and their gracious hospitality. All people living with PD and their care partners are welcome.
Hello Fair Oaks Folks!
Our regular PD support group meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon in the crafts room of Sunrise Senior Living at Fair Oaks on Joseph Siewick Dr. in Fairfax. As we mentioned last month, the PFNCA Parkinson’s Symposium is scheduled on the same date, and a number of our group members will be attending.
Sonia Gow has graciously offered to lead the meeting at Sunrise at Fair Oaks on March 24 for those not attending the symposium. Sonia will share helpful information and news of upcoming events of interest in our PD community. The PD Social Network Cafés, which she hosts, continue to grow and several new locations have opened recently. Thank you Sonia for all you do for our PD community.
Below information is shared from the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research about a way to advocate for the PD community:
April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. While there has been significant progress in treatment and cause for optimism, our goal is for a cure within our lifetime. Here is one way to be an advocate for our PD community. Contact your members of Congress and ask them to fund a national Parkinson’s database and support Parkinson’s Research funding. You can go online to; advocate.michaeljfox.org where there are 3 letters (templates) & instructions on how to email your representative, asking them to sign the “Dear Colleague “ Letters. Optional, you can personalize the message and explain why these letters matter to you as a member of the nationwide community of Americans whose lives are touched by Parkinson’s disease.
Sandy, Please rewrite my paragraph about the meetings as needed and I thank you for doing so..
I almost forgot the fwd letter below.. I don’t reply to all requests for speakers, as we get so many from marketers. I don’t believe we want an unknown speaker, talking about recovery from substance abuse among care takers. Is not our focus. Maybe we need a form letter, thanking them, but saying no thanks, politely of course.
Hello Fair Oaks Folks! Our Feb. PD support group meeting will be held at the Sunrise Senior Living at Fair Oaks on Joseph Siewick Dr. in Fairfax, but we will meet in the Craft room for the next few months, while renovations are being done on the 3rd floor. The Craft room is located just below the library on the 2nd floor; there will be a sign on the doors. It is a comfortable room and even has a small kitchen at one end.
We will have the soup and sandwich pot luck that we had to postpone in Jan. Donna will bring a soup (butternut squash) that can be sipped or spooned from a cup. We’re asking attendees to bring a sandwich that can be sliced to share on a platter. Donna will supply plates, soup cups, and plastic tableware. Chips, fruit or cookies are also welcome. We will talk among ourselves and catch up with news. (A planned boxing demonstration had to be postponed due to space limitations.)
Looking ahead for next month, the annual PFNCA Symposium is on March 24th, (the 4th Saturday) so we need to discuss if we want to meet on another date, or have both options available. Donna, our wonderful facilitator, will be attending the Symposium and it’s likely that many other group members will also.
